Administer general and regional anesthetics during surgical and/or obstetrical procedures under the supervision of an attending anesthesiologist. Evaluates situations and informs attending anesthesiologists of patient's condition; recommends anesthetics to be used, techniques of administration and supportive measures necessary for approval by attending physician as required by departmental guidelines. Checks anesthesia machine and monitoring equipment, supplies, medication and anesthesia gases. Monitors and records patient's vital signs, records all medication administered to the patient and related reaction and responses.
Knowledge of current principles and practices of anesthesiology sufficient to ensure the safe condition and care of surgical patients. Knowledge of the various anesthetic agents, related actions and effects, and procedures for proper administration sufficient to be able to utilize the most appropriate agent and procedure or individual cases. Knowledge of nursing theory and practice relating to the administration of anesthesia sufficient to diagnose and perform patient care functions. Equipment Used: Anesthesia equipment. Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting adult patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires frequent standing and walking for long periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
High School Diploma, Nursing School Diploma (2,3,4 yrs), Licensed as Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania, Certified Registered Nurse anesthetist. Clinical experience is preferred.
