Job Description:Intermediate/Senior:
Perform engineering evaluations and analyses, and make
engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks.
Cognizant areas may include planning, designing,
modeling, analyzing, documenting, and testing of
nuclear, mechanical, structural or electrical
components, systems and equipment and facilities. Work
may include chemical or materials evaluations, design
reviews, operations support, safety analysis,
engineering methods and software development, and
analysis of vendor's procedures and systems for quality
control or manufacturing surveillance.
The successful candidate will evaluate the thermal and
hydraulic characteristics for the A1B reactor design
which will be used in the new FORD class aircraft
carriers. Thermal and Hydraulic analysis includes the
use of computer model simulations, detailed
interpretation and documentation of the results, and
interfacing with other engineering disciplines to
develop designs and establish reactor performance
capability. The following is a list of job duties
associated with the position.
1. The successful candidate will work as part of a
team responsible for supporting core manufacturing
surveillance. This includes the resolution of
performance issues resulting from manufacturing
defects as well as the development and evaluation of
new design concepts for improved reactor performance
with greater affordability.
2. With initial criticality of the FORD class carrier
upcoming, analysis is ongoing to support A1B reactor
plant acceptance testing. The candidate will work to
design, develop, and ensure various acceptance
criteria are met and the cores operate within design
expectations.
3. The position offers the opportunity to work to
resolve technical issues in shipyard construction
that could impact reactor thermal and hydraulic
capabilities.
4. Finally, the organization is evaluating new fuel
systems and reactor technologies to achieve a
life-of-the-ship carrier design or application of
nuclear power on traditionally non-nuclear naval
platforms. The engineer will have the opportunity to
collaborate with materials technology, and methods
development organizations in contributing to cutting
edge design work that will help pave the way for the
next generation of reactor core design.

Job Requirements:Intermediate:
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical
Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or equivalent from an
accredited college or university and a minimum of two
years of relevant experience; or
MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical
Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or equivalent from an
accredited college or university.

Senior:
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical
Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or equivalent from an
accredited college or university and a minimum of six
years of relevant experience; or
MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical
Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or equivalent from an
accredited college or university and a minimum of four
years of relevant experience.
