Students may work with three-dimensional objects or paper archive collections, and will be required to complete artifact documentation records and protect artifacts from damage. Interns will assist collection staff in the day-to-day management of collection records and will use the utmost care in handling or working around artifacts. Potential projects and tasks may include collections inventory, artifact cataloging and tagging, compilation and organization of collection records, artifact research, data entry of collection information into collection database, photography and archival storage areas and exhibits. Knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and museum collection databases are helpful. Prefer an intern who is seeking a career in museum collection management or curatorial work. Knowledge of Virginia History and/or Henrico County is a plus. Working with museum artifacts is not a given. Until an intern has completed our in-house training and been evaluated on artifact handling skills, we cannot promise he/she will be allowed to handle or work near museum collections.
