Performs recreation work in therapeutic recreation programs; does related work as required.
The Therapeutic Recreation Instructor will have knowledge and hands on experience working with individuals with disabilities as well as skills in adapting activities and /or inclusive settings preferred. Knowledge of philosophy and objectives of therapeutic recreation are required.
Some knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of community recreation; knowledge of general recreation leadership methods; knowledge of techniques and/or tools used in general or specialized recreation program area; working knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions necessary for recreation work; ability to stimulate interest in and appreciation for the various aspects of the activities; ability to deal effectively with groups and to maintain discipline and/or control; ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public; ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare reports.
Graduation from high school and one (1) year of related work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule to meet department needs. First Aid, CPR, AED certification required. Training provided if necessary. Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs as needed to move supplies and equipment.
