This position will assist in the administration of programs, services and classes offered to the senior community of 55 years of age and older.
Assist in the coordination and supervision of a variety of recreation programs including senior services, special events and other activities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
- The Recreation Leader I is the entry-level position responsible for assisting the Recreation Leader II and the Recreation Specialist in administering senior programs and activities.
- The Recreation Leader I works under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator.
OTHER JOB-RELATED DUTIES
- Assist in the coordination of senior programs including senior services, special events and other recreational activities.
- Perform a variety of general administrative duties including; answer telephones, assist customers, collect fees and maintain attendance records.
- Promote the safety of all program participants.
- Assist with the set-up and take-down of tables, chairs and equipment for all facility activities and special events.
- Oversee the regular operations of a senior and community center facility.
- Respond to patrons’ needs for assistance and information in person and over the phone.
- Operate a variety of standard office equipment including personal computers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Some leadership experience and participation in senior activities.
- Municipal recreation practices is desirable.
- Customer service techniques.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT :
- Lead and work effectively with program participants.
- Leadership and organization to provide senior activities.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, City officials and the public.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, follow oral and written instructions.
- Deal effectively and courteously with the public.
- Use a personal computer and a variety of computer software.
- Learn, understand and apply relevant policies and procedures.
- Lifting and moving tables and chairs and arranging facilities for special events and/or meetings.
- Maintaining facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner.
PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
- Must be available to work weekends and evenings as needed.
Work is primarily performed in an office environment requiring prolonged sitting or standing; walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, stooping and bending; input data into a computer terminal; exposure to computer glare, vibrations and pitch; ability to lift, carry and move objects totaling approximately 25 pounds in weight; and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed.
