This is part time position in the Recreation and Community Services Department working a maximum of 20 hours per week.


Assist in the coordination and supervision of a variety of recreation programs including adult and youth sports, senior services, special events, and other activities.

  • The Recreation Leader I is the entry-level position responsible for assisting the Recreation Leader II and the Recreation Specialist in administering recreation programs and activities.
  • The Recreation Leader I works under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator.

    Essential Duties:
    • Assist in the coordination of recreation programs including adult and youth sports, senior services, special events, and other recreational activities.
    • Perform a variety of general administrative duties including: answer telephones, assist customers, collect fees, and maintain attendance records
    • Promote the safety of all program participants.
    • Assist with the set-up and take-down of tables, chairs, and sports equipment for all facility activities and special events.
    • Oversee the regular operations of a community center, fields, and gymnasium facility.
    • Respond to patrons' needs for assistance and information in person and over the phone.
    • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a personal computer.
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications Guidelines:

    • For Recreation Leader I: Present enrollment in high school.
    • Some leadership experience and participation in recreation activities.
        • Municipal recreation practices is desirable.
        • Customer service techniques.
        • Lead and work effectively with program participants.
        • Leadership and organization to provide recreation activities.
        • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, City officials, and the public.
        • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, follow oral and written instructions.
        • Deal effectively and courteously with the public.
        • Use a personal computer and a variety of computer software.
        • Learn, understand, and apply relevant policies and procedures.
        • Lifting and moving tables and chairs and arranging facilities for special events and/or meetings.
        • Maintaining facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner.
        Must be available to work weekends and evenings as needed.

        PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work is primarily performed in an office environment requiring prolonged sitting or standing; walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, stooping, and bending; input data into a computer terminal; exposure to computer glare, vibrations, and pitch; ability to lift, carry and move objects totaling approximately 25 pounds in weight; and have mobility, vision, hearing, and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed
