This position will be assigned to the Field Sports Supervisor in the Recreation Division of the Community Services Department. Working hours will generally be six (6) hours per day, Monday through Friday; however, the selected candidate must be able to work a varied schedule that includes evenings, weekends and some holidays. Candidate selected must be able to instruct, officiate, supervise, and participate in a wide variety of field sports activities including, but not limited to: baseball, softball, flag football, soccer, basketball, golf, track, camps, clinics and leagues.
A limited number of applicants who clearly show that they most closely meet the needs of this position in terms of training, experience, education, and other job-related characteristics will be accepted to participate in the selection process. This process will include evaluation and initial screening of the standard on-line City application to determine which candidates progress to the next phase of the recruitment process. The subsequent selection process may include a written test/written exercise, performance exercise, panel interview, and a final departmental interview.
The Position Under direction, to provide group and individual leadership and instruction in field sports and recreation activities; and to do related work as required.
Examples of Duties:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Assist in the development of a comprehensive program of recreation activities and field sport services; assist with instructional, leagues, tournaments and special sporting events and programs; supervise and instruct part-time staff with special activities; assist in a variety of recreation and social programs planned for various ages; meet and work with community groups to promote and stimulate programs at a recreation facility; keeps records; prepares correspondence and reports.
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Two (2) years experience in supervision of varied recreation activities with emphasis in field sports.
Education: Any combination equivalent to graduation from Junior College.
License and/or Certifications
Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record. Valid Tuberculosis Certificate and CPR/First Aid Certificates are required.
Knowledge of: Knowledge of techniques necessary to conduct varied recreation and athletic programs
Ability to: Ability to apply the techniques necessary to conduct varied recreation and athletic programs; gain the confidence and arouse the enthusiasm of groups and individuals; assist in the supervision of a variety of recreation and athletic programs; maintain harmonious relationships with fellow employees and with the public; understand and communicate with special interest groups.
