Duties and Responsibilities
The Loyola University Chicago Law Library meets the information needs of its patrons with print, digital and microform sources. The staff includes 9 professional librarians and 7 support staff. The law students and faculty are the primary users. The Law School has graduate law programs in health care, child advocacy, antitrust, tax and business law. The librarian in this position provides reference service to faculty, students, and other patrons; helps plan and teach first year legal research; conducts research presentations in law classes upon request; participates in collection development and the faculty liaison program, and performs other duties as assigned. The librarian reports to the Assistant Director of Education and Research Services. This is a part time position (20 hours per week). The schedule requires Monday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday hours.
Minimum Education or Experience
M.L.S. from an ALA accredited library school, and J.D. from an ABA accredited law school are required. Significant appropriate experience may be substituted for one of the degrees. Candidates should have demonstrated competence in delivering legal research services; thorough knowledge of print and electronic legal resources, knowledge of and experience with online library systems; proficiency in technology applications appropriate for effective legal research and public services programs; and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
