The Director of Academic Services reports on a day-to-day basis to the SCCC Campuses Executive Dean. This position is responsible for assisting the coordination of academic services for the five county service area. These services may include, but are not limited to, general academic services, faculty recruitment and hiring, part-time faculty mentoring, part-time faculty resources, part-time faculty evaluation, program development, limited academic advising, part-time faculty training, and campus course scheduling. Work a flexible schedule, including weekend and evening hours, in order to effectively meet the students and faculty needs. You must be willing to work these hours in order to be considered for this position.

The incumbent in this job is expected to assist the College in achieving its vision and mission. Customer focus, college service, and a willingness to assist as needed are expectations for all employees.

Essential Functions:

% of Time

· Directs and supervises academic services provided at the SCCC Campuses including but not limited to: Learning Resource Center, Testing Center, instructional labs and internships for cooperative learning experiences. Provides day-to-day supervision of all part-time instructors teaching in the SCCC Campuses service area, including assessment and evaluation of instruction in conjunction with PCC department chairs. Develop part-time faculty mentoring program and provide day-to-day mentoring and resources for all part-time instructors. Serve as a resource to part-time faculty and students in making appropriate referrals to PCC entities and external agencies.

· Direct the coordination of the class schedule, and implement training and in-service opportunities throughout each semester for faculty and instructors.

· Recruit, screen, hire and retain faculty/instructors in cooperation with Department Chairs and the SCCC Campus Executive Dean to include academic, career technical, and concurrent enrollment.

· Supervise classified/APT/hourly staff assigned to academic services, including serving as a second-level supervisor in some instances at the SCCC Campuses. Direct and supervise continuing education, non-credit and extended study programs for the SCCC campus service area.

· Work with the SCCC Campus staff, PCC department chairs and administrators to coordinate required faculty/instructor orientation/in-service training at the start of each semester. Coordinate, schedule and implement training and in –service opportunities throughout each semester for part- and full-time faculty.

· Work with other SCCC Campus staff to assess and provide for academic support and retention services such as tutoring, mentoring, special classroom assistance, and accommodations required under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Provide academic services to staff, faculty/instructors as required to meet the needs of the student and the college which will include occasional evening and weekend hours.

· Assist the SCCC Campus Executive Dean with the development and implementation of academic programs at the Branch Campus to include polycom/hybrid delivery methods.

· Coordinate, with PCC Department Chairs, the student evaluation of part-time instructors and the classroom evaluation of part-time instructors for all teaching sites in the SCCC Campus service area.

· Coordinate timely dissemination of administrative and academic information to faculty and students. Keep instructors apprised of updates and changes to critical college policies and procedures.

· Serve as point of contact to faculty/instructors and students in academic grievances. Support and guide faculty/instructors, student services and students in proper procedure relating to matters of academic grievances and student conduct.

· Perform other duties and undertake projects as assigned by the Executive Dean of the SCCC Campuses.

· Serve on PCC and community committees that are appropriate to the student and faculty academic support function. Collaborate with PCC entities and external agencies in furtherance of academic and student support initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Experience will be based upon a full-time, 40-hour work week. Part-time experience will be pro-rated. Part-time teaching experience will be based on a ratio of 36 credit hours = 1 year of experience.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree

ALL DEGREES MUST BE EARNED FROM A REGIONALLY ACCREDITED INSTITUTION

Experience:

· One year experience providing student services or academic services at an institution of higher education.

Special knowledge, skills, abilities:

· Verifiable experience in a position that requires the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and faculty. (Experience must be documented on application materials).

· Demonstrated experience working independently in a position that included the need to set priorities, research and resolve problems and follow-through on projects/assignment with minimal direction. (Experience must be documented on application materials).

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Master’s degree in education or administration.

ALL DEGREES MUST BE EARNED FROM A REGIONALLY ACCREDITED INSTITUTION

Experience:

· Two or more years’ experience providing student services and academic services support at an institution of higher education with preference given to community college experience.

· Two or more years’ experience as a full-time college instructor or four or more years’ experience as a part-time instructor.

· Experience utilizing data in the decision making process.

· Experience with hybrid or alternate delivery methods.

· Experience with class scheduling.

· Experience with faculty development and mentoring.

· Experience as a team leader or project manager in an academic or educational setting.

Special knowledge, skills, abilities:

· Knowledge of databases, especially Banner

· Experience with or knowledge of advising models.

· Knowledge of the State of Colorado vocational credential requirements.

· Experience and understanding of the assessment of student learning.

Salary Information

$41,000 plus additional compensation based on education and experience. In addition to salary, PCC offers an excellent benefits package which includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement.
