American Concrete Products, an Oldcastle Materials Company, was established in 1980 with three trucks and one small, manually operated plant in Johnston, Iowa. Since then, American Concrete Products has continued to expand and has grown to become one of the largest ready mix providers in the area. American Concrete now owns and operates 38 ready mix plants in 24 counties throughout Iowa and Minnesota. We deploy approximately 165 ready mix trucks daily and are equipped to handle all of your ready mix concrete needs.
Position Title: Regional Manager-American Concrete
Division/Department: Oldcastle Materials Group (OMG)/Midwest Region
FLSA Status: Exempt
Pipeline Level: Manager of Others
Reports To: Vice President of Operations, American Concrete
Direct Reports: Plant Managers within assigned region
This position offers a broad range of responsibilities and will work alongside senior management of the Midwest Region and American Concrete. The Regional Manager is an upper level and plays a leadership role in the manufacturing and operational issues associated with the delivery of product. The preferred candidate is experienced in the operation of a concrete plant, and can lead and motivate within a safe team environment.
Provide leadership, training, supervision and support to Plant Managers and personnel assigned to the respective area of responsibility within assigned region.
Develop teamwork and foster team spirit within the respective area of authority.
Develop an environment that encourages quality product and service to the customer so as to be the best in the business regarding on-time delivery, driver productivity and customer service.
Ensure that plants and operating and safety equipment are clean, maintained and achieving peak performance.
Interface with maintenance department for major maintenance and/or repairs.
Interface with vendors for raw materials, equipment and plant maintenance.
Generate and manage the operating budget for the fiscal year under the direction of the VP of Operations.
Conduct staff meetings with personnel supervised and participate in management staff meetings.
Assist in recruiting, hiring and training of Driver’s, Plant Manager’s as directed by VP of Operations.
Determine discipline when appropriate.
Act on and, where appropriate, approve payroll claims.
Understand and administer labor agreement; work with VP of Operations and HR Manager on labor relations issues.
Recommend and assist with efforts to improve management of plants and financial performance.
Other duties as may be assigned.
Five or more years of increasing responsibilities with concrete/ready-mix/construction industry.
Demonstrated success in managing employees and/or leading a crew.
Some experience creating, working within and/or administering an assigned budget.
Some experience within ready mix industry.
High standard of ethics, integrity, and trust.
Strong work ethic and high standards for safety in the workplace.
Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving and receiving feedback.
Ability to prepare annual budget and make presentations to diverse groups of people.
Ability to speak, read and write in English.
Must be able to use fax machines, computers, keyboarding for data entry and internal/external network systems for e-mail communication.
Valid state driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.
Must be willing to work in or travel to other locations as needed.
Travel approximately 50% - 60%
Must be available as needed during non-traditional work hours.
