SUMMARY: Performs all registration functions for patients. This includes collecting accurate demographic information, verifying insurance benefits and eligibility, obtaining authorization/pre-certification for services provided, and collecting patient liability prior to or at the time of service. Greets and serves patients in a professional, friendly, and respectful manner to promote sacred encounters.
Minimum Requirements
MIN REQS: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience: A minimum of one year experience in a healthcare or customer service setting with proven customer service skills. This is a variable shift position.
Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES: Registers patient in a timely manner. Verifies patient insurance using automated tool; reads and understands responses from automated insurance verification tool and takes appropriate action, including referrals to Patient Access Specialist or Financial Counselor, as appropriate. Obtains and documents complete patient demographic, financial, and clinical data in Meditech. Contacts Physician offices to obtain missing insurance information which can include policy number, group number, date of birth and insurance phone number. Ensures insurance card, orders and any other forms are copied as needed. Ensures that patient handouts are presented and explained at time of registration (Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Advance Directives, Important Patient Information, etc.). Obtains necessary signatures on required forms and consents (COA, Medicare notification letters, etc.). Collects patient¿s estimated liability prior to or at time of service; makes referrals to Financial Counselor or Patient Access Specialist, as appropriate. Understands all policies related to handling of monies and follows them strictly. Escorts patients to appropriate department. Answers simple patient inquiries via phone or in person and routes to appropriate department. Exceptional customer service skills. Candidate must be able to cordially, professionally and effectively interact with patients, family members, physicians and other hospital personnel in a fast-paced environment. Candidate must be able to relay complicated information from patient or family members to clinical staff. Candidate must be able handle potential difficult patients/families/customers, physician/clinical staff, and internal staff. Must work independently, be self directed and work effectively with individuals that have a wide diversified background.
