Summary: Greets patients and visitors when they arrive for services. Responsible for accurate registration of patient demographics and insurance and assures the validity of incoming data, corrects information as needed, and processes the registration including explaining and obtaining the patients signature on the Authorization for Treatment/Terms of Treatment Agreement form, Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) and completing Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) questionnaire. Scans all necessary documentation to Horizon Business Folder (HBF) via Image Link Engine (ILE) and enters orders for tests and procedures into the STAR system. Obtains Insurance benefits and estimated patient responsibility. Collects co-payments, estimated co-insurance and deductibles, which includes pre-service phone calls to patient’s prior to service as well as collecting payment at time of service. Documents actions taken, answers inquiries involving individual accounts, and researches problem accounts to assure payment. Maintains knowledge of the STAR computer system and other systems to perform all responsible tasks. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values. Principle Accountabilities: % of Time Spent 1.Processes patient demographic and insurance information, registrations, pre-registrations, patient payments and other registration functions. Interacts and maintains a good rapport with patients, other departments, physician offices, and insurance companies directly or by telephone. Collects co-payments/co-insurance and deductibles. Accommodates requests from patients and physicians to the extent possible. Uses and demonstrates understanding of the STAR computer system and safety procedures. Assists patients in and out of wheelchairs and escorts patients when needed. Stays abreast of contract, regulation, procedure, and other changes affecting the department. 60% 2. Assures integrity of critical system data elements. Completes assignments in the prescribed time periods with efficiency and attention to detail. Answers patient and/or third-party inquiries of patient account, insurance eligibility and coverage questions, and/or institution or department policies or procedures. Adheres to Patient Access and St. Luke's Hospital’s policies, hospital/physician billing practices, and third-party requirements and HIPAA regulations. Teaches new employees and other staff members procedures. Works efficiently with other staff members to accomplish work and departmental projects. 30% 3. Provides information and assistance to physicians regarding billing and pre-certification procedures. Reports patient complaints, unusual accounts, account problems, and workflow issues promptly to the Manager. 5% 4. Performs other duties as assigned. 5% Total: 100%

Required Experience:
Admitting/Registration experience is preferred. Must have effective oral and written communication skills as well as excellent spelling skills with knowledge of Medical terminology. Must have typing skills of 35 - 40 WPM or computer input experience. Proficiency with 10-key calculator and/or data entry skills required. One year related work experience preferred. Computer experience preferred. Must be capable of maintaining a high degree of productivity with attention to detail and accuracy and ability to understand third-party requirements/regulations for effective job performance. Must be capable of accurately determining patient insurance information, data entry, and processing to meet the Hospital’s financial objectives. Must be able to interact effectively with staff and patients and demonstrate positive customer relations while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Required Education:
High school diploma required.

Compensation:
