JOB SUMMARY: Dock Worker
Support production and revenue goals by following proper handling, loading and unloading procedures.

Accountabilities:
  • Minimize damage to donated items
  • Proper loading on and off of trucks
Responsibilities:
  • Handle goods and equipment properly to avoid damage or breakage
  • Sort and label goods by category and place in proper containers or equipment
  • Separate high-end goods, computer and computer accessory and place in proper equipment
  • Perform inventory count based on invoices, bills of lading, trailer manifest or packing slip when loading and unloading goods and when loading and unloading shipments and store returns
  • Fill out needed production and inventory reports
  • Assist drivers in loading / unloading of goods or equipment
  • Deliver goods to work station using proper equipment
  • Maintain good housekeeping around dock area
  • Stack donated goods neatly and safely
  • Submit needed reports and information in a timely manner
  • Perform basic arithmetical calculations including addition, subtraction, division and multiplication
  • Assist supervisor in providing on the job training to new staff, participants, clients and volunteers
  • Perform “Processor” function when needed
  • Load and secure shipments according to proper procedure
  • Understand and implement safe, efficient freight handling and lifting procedures

JOB SUMMARY: Salvage Yard Worker
The Salvage Yard Worker is responsible for maintaining all items related to recycling that are processed and at Goodwill’s 1500 Mission St processing center. The Worker will monitor the salvage volumes and inform manager to schedule pick-ups/deliveries with the recycling vendors and their carriers when trailers and dumpsters are full. The Worker will also maintain the cleanliness of the yard and baling areas. The Yard Worker will report directly to the Resource Recovery Manager

Accountabilities:
  • Maintain good housekeeping, safe and efficient yard operation
  • Prepare needed reports to track inventory of recyclable and salvage loads
Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of dock and yard areas.yard area only
  • Sorting recyclable material from trash.
  • Maintaining area in an organized and a safe manner by collecting carts, coops and flats needed to carry out assignments.
  • Palletize computers and monitors that come thru the donation stream

JOB SUMMARY: Baler
Produce bales of un-sellable and recyclable goods from donation flow according to safety and production standard. Assist Manager in providing training to new employees, clients and participants.

Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for the physical maintenance of all baling and material handling equipment used in salvage and recycling operation
  • Ensure safety standards are followed when operating baling and other material handling equipment
  • Follows proper baling procedure and be able to meet production goal
Responsibilities:
  • Perform pre-shift inspection of equipment
  • Handle equipment properly to avoid damage or breakage
  • Meet production standard on any given shift
  • Bale recyclable and un-saleable goods neatly and safely
  • Remove wet clothes and hangers from clothing in preparation for bailing
  • Stack bales neatly and safely using a forklift or pallet jack
  • Supply empty containers to shipping docks and other departments and moving damaged roll-containers from these areas to maintenance as needed.

JOB SUMMARY: Processor
The Processor sorts thru all incoming donations and determines what donations are sellable and non-sellable.

Accountabilities:
  • Support revenue goals by maximizing the value of donated goods
  • Meeting production goals that are timeline driven accurately
Responsibilities:
  • Meet production goals by sorting and identifying goods according to categories, including separating high-end and vintage goods, placing items in proper containers
  • Properly packing breakable and non-breakable goods
  • Placing sellable goods on hangers for racking to be tagged, priced and shipped
  • Cross-train in processing of new goods or Target goods
  • Handle goods and equipment properly to avoid damage or breakage
  • Fill out production and inventory reports

JOB SUMMARY: Material Handler
The Material Handler loads and unloads trucks and trailers of donated goods, placing them in the proper locations aswell as supply needed inventory of goods to different work stations. He /She is also responsible in sorting different categories of goods including recyclable materials.

Accountabilities:
  • Deliver raw goods and other inventory needs to each work station to meet daily production requirement
  • Manually or mechanically load and unload materials from pallets, skids, platforms, , lifting devices, or other transport vehicles.
  • Practices and adheres to appropriate safety procedures, including but not limited to, wearing all needed PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when required
Responsibilities:
  • Supply raw materials to meet production needs.
  • Unload trucks and trailers of donations using the proper equipment and lift techniques in a safe and efficient manner
  • Reads production schedule, customer order, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed
  • Move levers and controls that operate lifting devices, such as forklifts, , and elevating platforms, to load, unload, transport, and stack material.
  • Unload trucks, checking merchandise against bill of ladings and label goods by category, including identifying recyclable goods, placing in proper containers and delivering goods to different work stations and departments.
  • Inspect product load for accuracy, and safely move it around the warehouse or facility to ensure timely and complete delivery.

JOB SUMMARY : Driver Helper
Performs routine manual work in assisting truck drivers in loading and unloading of goods from one location to the other i.e. retail stores, warehouse, donation sites and businesses. When not in route the driver helper performs a variety of operational functions including warehouse and dock work.

Accountabilities:
  • Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route.
  • Assists in checking and verifying bills of lading and comply with department guidelines.
  • Provides assistance to driver in reading maps, using radio or phones to connect with dispatcher and assist the driver to back-up trucks or trailers into the dock.
Responsibilities:
  • Manually loads and unloads trucks
  • Help keep the truck clean
  • Assist the driver in customer service
  • Come to work neat and clean in appearance and wear Goodwill issued uniform in a professional manner
  • Provide assistance to the driver and serve as a “spotter” to guide the truck to the loading dock when needed
