This position's primary responsibility is to assist in meeting and exceeding all customer needs and expectations with respect to regulatory issues for the Inks America color unit. Assists with the completion of customer's technical questionnaires for customers. The Regulation Chemistt is responsible for initial review of customer specifications and responsible for a basic knowledge of FDA and global regulations of all applications.
Material Safety Data Sheets-Work on migration of MSDS of raw materials and inks from BatchMaster to J.D. Edwards system and generate new MSDS in Globally Harmonized System(GHS) format. Work with chemists to enter formulations into data base and generate MSDS for new inks. Coordinate the documenting process for acquiring new raw materials and producing new commercial inks. Maintain an up-to-date chemical inventory for R&D lab. Review and Improve chemical hygiene program.
Product Regulatory Compliance -Evaluate the worldwide registration status of raw materials, inks, and registration. Ensure products are compliance with REACH. Provide TSCA and REACH letter to customers upon request.
Food Grade and Food Contact Compliance Evaluation-Evaluate raw materials and final dispersions & inks for food grade compliance. Contact supplier to obtain related information. Submit necessary paper work for USDA approval as well as petition paper work as needed.
Environmental Health and Safety- Maintain government permits for site (i.e. fire, EPA) and ensure proper reporting to government agencies, file maintenance. Update site hazardous business plan when required, create new plan for Carlsbad site for approval maintain IIPP (Injury Illness Prevention Program) as required by CA state law, set up required training, train employees and update training records. Schedule and perform periodic safety inspections including all safety equipment, ensure minimal safety standards are met, schedule fire training and extinguisher inspection yearly, complete and post the OSHA 300 log yearly, attend yearly Sensient Safety conference to present site programs, complete Sensient safety audit. Any other EHS duties as assigned or required.
Hazardous Materials Management- Attend yearly training to ensure certification for handling of hazardous waste is kept current (required by state/federal law), ensure hazardous waste area is properly maintained and inspected per state regulations, schedule hazardous waste pickups, package material for shipment, complete documentation and maintain all files, update profiles of waste as needed, ensure laboratory practices meet the state and local requirements for storage and handling of hazardous raw materials for satellite sites within the site, set up and maintain the applicable MSDS notebooks in the labs.
Shipping and Receiving- Inspect all incoming shipments for accuracy, update the incoming chemical log as required, package, create documentation and ship experimental technical samples to customers, ensure DOT hazmat certification is current (training every 3 years), order, receive and stock shipping supplies (includes requirements for ECS and hazardous waste).
Technical support in the lab, measuring ink physical properties, such as surface tension, pH, conductivity, viscosity, etc. Promptly answer incoming telephone calls in strict compliance with Company expectations; answers phone calls by the second ring, strive towards keeping phone service level at 95% with zero abandoned calls.
The qualified candidate will meet the following requirements:
- B.S. in Toxicology or Chemistry.
- Computer literate, knowledge of Excel and Word required.
- Courses or direct experience relating to MSDS preparation, REACH, and Chemical Worldwide Registration.
- Experience working in a chemistry lab is preferred.
