Rehab Therapy Tech II

Under the direct supervision of the Rehab Therapy Tech IV (On-Unit Rehab Supervisor), performs routine to moderately complex rehabilitation therapy work to patients in a Psychiatric Forensic setting. Work involves providing structured rehabilitative activities, such as recreational, vocational, educational, and music, to clients utilizing the principles of Social Learning. The Rehab Therapy Tech II works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Applicant must understand that duties, location of work, and shift patterns are subject to change as to best meet the needs of the department, program, or hospital. Occupational hazards include the potential for physical injury and stress associated with serving mentally ill persons with a potential for violent behavior.

Essential Job Functions:
- Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. - Conducts up to 15 hours per week of therapeutic activities utilizing psychosocial rehab principles and active - directive teaching techniques. - Responsibly prepares supplies / equipment for all therapeutic activities. - Assist with the overall management of the program via the completion of quality improvement functions. - Performs work as assigned. - Provides effective management of the Competency Point Store (under supervision of Rehab Tech IV). - Completes Rehab assessments for newly admitted patients and ensures they are in accordance with MHRS guidelines. - Attends all mandatory programmatic in-services to maintain compliance with program standards. - Completed as required annual training. - Serves on unit treatment team meetings and may provide coverage for the Rehab Tech IV during off -unit central rehab track team meetings, Rehabilitation Program OIT, and Unit QIT. - Completes required documentation and other pertinent documents maintained within the social learning environment. - Shall accept safety as a personal responsibility and comply with all established safety rules, regulations, and procedures. - Participates in activities to address overall Belief, Mission, and Vision of the North Texas State Hospital and Competency Program. - Adheres to DSHS, HHSC, NTSH, and Rehab Policies and Procedures.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
-Demonstrates skill and capability of accurately observing and identifying significant patient behaviors and possesses the capability of accurately recording data on patient point cards describing behavior and events in a patient’s record and in team meetings. -Knowledge of Psychiatric Rehab concepts and have ability to present the material to advance patient learning. -Have a functional knowledge of the dynamics of the MHRS in relation to Treatment Plans and progress records. -Ability/ willingness to work with supervisor, co-workers, and follow established policy and procedures. Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of planning and conducting recreational activities in a Mental health setting. -Must possess a wide variety of leisure skills and a firm knowledge of the value and role of Leisure Education Games. -Strong working knowledge of group dynamics and application to Therapeutic Recreation Services. -Must continually present self as a role model to all persons in contact with. -Ability to exercise good discretionary judgment in the conduct of duties. -Effective use of Microsoft Office 97 for data entry and completion of reports. -Demonstrate effective engagement and reengagement skills and techniques and be able to supervise others in it. -Age specific competencies will be obtained through specific program training modules. (Six months). -Can describe and demonstrate importance of positive words, creativity, consistency, genuineness, enthusiasm, and different roles in relating to patients. -Knowledge of Rad Plus, ability to retrieve and print documents. (Preferred)

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED, plus one (1) year of work experience providing vocational, psychosocial, or related habilitation assistance is required. College degree in a vocational, psychosocial, or related rehabilitation field is preferred. One (1) year (30 semester hours) of accredited college work in a related field may substitute for the required work experience.
