Research Analyst The Virginian-Pilot Media Companies -

General Description
Primarily responsible for the management of internal and external databases, manipulation and analysis of data to help uncover marketing/product needs for internal and external customers, as well as responsibilities in survey development and coding.
Reporting Structure
Will report directly to the Research and Development Manager. The Research Analyst will share dotted line alignments with highest opportunity Sales Teams and will report regularly to team meetings for the purpose of opportunity assessments and R&D communications.
Essential Functions:
Analyzes multiple research resources, identify trends, correlations, or patterns and communicate these findings in a clear and actionable manner.
Connects comprehensive research and detailed analyses to implications in product/service development and improvements or operational, promotional, advertising, brand, competitive, content, design, media, distribution, and pricing strategies.
Develops, maintains and integrates multiple data sources for the purpose of identifying market and behavioral trends, threats, opportunities, and insights.
Works directly with clients spanning multiple departments and business categories with varying needs.
Maintains a professional working relationship with all customer interactions (internal and external with varying degrees of business and industry experience)
Develops and delivers training and consultative services.
Produces White Paper/Case Study for department, company, and industry-wide communications.
Oversees and maintain client confidentially.
Coordinates multiple projects, meetings, timelines, and work flows in a deadline driven sales environment.
Benchmarks leading and innovative methodologies, database advancements and research applications from industry-wide companies, leaders and resources.
Responsible in helping achieve incremental and growth revenue objectives.
Oversees segmentation analyses geared toward business and communications strategy development.
Requirements: Experience/Education:
5+ years in marketing, advertising, media, database, and/or consumer research
Minimum of a college degree
Computer/Software Skills
Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Word), Google Docs, SPSS, Survey Monkey, SharePoint, Scarborough, Claritas (PRIZM), TNS, AutoCount, RAM, HitWise, Omniture, etc.
XML, .NET, SQL Server, Java or other web skills a plus
Ability to develop, maintain, mine, analyze and integrate multiple business and client databases using analysis tools (SQL and others)
Skills/Strengths:

Basic understanding of marketing, media, advertising and research principles
Critical thinking and problem solving
Detail oriented
Ability to communicate complex methods and analyses succinctly and can connect findings to recommendations or actions (oral and written)
Understanding and experience with working in a sales environment
Ability to prioritize and oversee multiple projects in a deadline driven environment
Able to analyze data through multiple lenses (e.g., demographic, geographic, behavioral, and historical) to help generate insights and recommendations
Able to develop and utilize multiple research and statistical methodologies.
Networking and lead generation
Providing prompt follow-up and progress on multiple projects to key personnel
Can easily adapt to rapidly changing business and deadline driven environment
Able to work autonomously without significant oversight
Excels in applying customer service skills with all internal and external communications and interactions
Passion for work in the field of research and development, analysis, data synthesis, and media a plus
