We are currently seeking a Research Assistant / Research Technician 4
for the Silver Spring, Maryland area.
The contractor shall perform experiments as part of a research team consisting of investigators, technicians, and students.
The contractor shall perform duties required to detect, identify, and quantify neurobiological mediators involved in the pathophysiology of bTBI using appropriate molecular analytical techniques.
The contractor shall be responsible for the routine maintenance and utilization of the instrumentation required and the execution of experiments using these data collection techniques.
The contractor shall assist with the design and coordination of experiments, provides guidance and assistance to co-workers and collaborators, and answers questions about experimental objectives and techniques to be used to fulfill these objectives.
The contractor shall recommend equipment acquisitions appropriate for experimental procedures and maintains a laboratory inventory of chemical reagents and surgical supplies required for these tasks.
The contractor shall assist with the compilation and analysis of data.
The contractor shall perform assays to identify and quantify pathophysiological mediators in biological fluids and tissue extracts as part of an overall effort to assess the cellular basis for blast-induced brain dysfunction and neuronal injury and non-invasively categorize blast TBI severity and etiology.
The contractor shall experimentally evaluate neuroprotective pharmacological therapies using neurobehavioral, histopathological, and neurochemical outcome measures.
Desired Education and Training: B.A. or B.S. degree, with a demonstrated understanding of physiology and/or neuroscience, and extensive hands-on experience with rodent surgery and physiological monitoring techniques will conduct experiments with laboratory rats that are designed to gain insights into injury mitigation and the medical care of combat casualties with bTBI.
Desired Experience: 3 – 5 years.
Must be able to work independently following a brief period of specific technical training.
