MDRC is seeking a Research Assistant to join our K-12 Education policy group in the New York office. The successful candidate will work under the guidance and supervision of a multidisciplinary research team and contribute to research aimed at improving the education of students in low-performing elementary and secondary schools.


Responsibilities for the Research Assistant position include a range of skills. Report and proposal coordination, literature searches and bibliographic documentation, fact-checking, and memo writing will be significant parts of the job. The Research Assistant may also assist with data processing, including data cleaning and reconciliation. Tasks may also include creation of report tables and appendices that involve coordination with multiple data sources and team members.


Candidates should have a BA/BS in education, economics, public policy, psychology, sociology, statistics, mathematics, or related field. Candidates must be organized, comfortable working against deadlines, and able to pay careful attention to detail. Strong research and writing skills are required. Proficiency in MS Word and Excel is essential. Experience with programming in SAS is a plus.

Some on-the-job training is provided; salary contingent upon experience.
