RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE)
THIS IS AN EPA NON-FACULTY POSITION.
WORK HOURS: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
WORK SCHEDULE: MONDAY - FRIDAY
THE POSITION IS FUNDED FOR TWO (2) CALENDAR YEARS BY A FIVE (5) YEAR NSF CAREER GRANT AWARDED TO THE P.I. (DR. VISCIDO). ALL SALARY, BENEFITS, AND OTHER COSTS WILL BE BORNE BY THE NSF GRANT.
The post-doctoral research associate will help conduct research and assist with undergraduate instruction and training relating to an NSF CAREER grant recently awarded to Dr. Steven Viscido, Department of Life Sciences. The associate will work in the laboratory to conduct research in ecology/animal behavior, will create computer simulation models of animal social behavior, and will assist in the building of a project website and smartphone applications. The associate will develop mathematical models of animal behavior and implement those models in Matlab. The associate will also prepare written and oral reports of the project. The associate will help supervise undergraduate research students in the laboratory and will help the P.I. conduct classroom activities in courses related to the research project, such as Environmental Biology.
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral-level degree in Ecology, Animal Behavior, or a related field, with an emphasis on modeling.
Ability to conduct experiments independently, and follow oral and written instructions relating to the experiments is necessary. Ability to analyze data from the experiment and write research papers for publication is required.
