This position constitutes an integral part of a discovery effort to identify novel proteins that will be used for engineering transgenic crops. The successful candidate will be responsible for development and maintenance of microbial collections, high throughput isolation and culture of microbes, and preparation of extracts. Experience with routine molecular biology techniques including cloning and recombinant protein expression is also desirable.
The position requires strong interaction with team members both external and internal to the group to ensure that samples are processed in an efficient and accurate manner. The responsibilities include data management, producing reports in a timely manner, performing routine laboratory maintenance tasks, and ensuring safety in the lab.
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in microbiology or biochemistry or related field, plus 2 - 4 years of related experience required. Equivalent amounts of relevant education and experience will be considered.
A minimum of 2 years experience with microbial techniques is essential: methods for isolation of diverse strains, proficiency in sterile technique, and storage procedures.
Proficiency with computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office), data management, and attention to detail are required. Self motivation, adaptability to change, excellent communication and organization skills including the ability to summarize and present data to other team members are essential.
