JCVI is seeking a Research Associate I/II, Molecular Biology to join our Virology Group. The Research Associate will work in a team performing full genome sequencing and analysis of various viruses, including influenza viruses.
Responsibilities of the Research Associate will include, but are not limited to:
• Carrying out routine Molecular Biology techniques related to viral genome sequencing (RTPCR, PCR, gel electrophoresis analysis, gel purification of DNA fragments, bacterial transformation, plasmid purification, restriction digests, DNA sequencing).
• Troubleshooting laboratory experiments and analyzing sequencing data.
• Presenting results and conclusions at laboratory meetings.
• Managing laboratory activities including ordering and stocking supplies and reagents.
Successful candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field. Experience in virology, molecular biology, and hands-on laboratory experience, preferably in an independent project is preferred. Candidates must have good troubleshooting capabilities, excellent organizational and time management skills, a high level of initiative and the ability to work with minimum supervision, and flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and shift priorities simultaneously.
