Qualifications Summary:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four year college or university in a Biological Sciences related field, and at least six months to one year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The amount of experience will determine the initial employment level (I or II). Theoretical understanding of cell biology/biochemistry or molecular biology is needed.

Job Description Summary:
Beginning to mid-level technical position in a biomedical research laboratory that studies HIV pathogenesis. Will work within an interactive research group and, under supervision, will use standard technical procedures in experiments with human blood cells, using sterile technique, universal precautions, and basic tissue culture methods. Will isolate subpopulations of Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) and maintain them in culture. Will perform HIV infection studies, extract cellular nucleic acids and perform PCR. Will maintain accurate records of experimental protocols and results. Will prepare standard reagents and buffers. Will comply with safety and security procedures. Will participate in maintenance of equipment and procurement of supplies. May perform additional duties as required.
