Recognized as leaders in the field, the UBC Health Economics team brings together research from a diverse set of backgrounds, including Economics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Engineering, Operations Research and Statistics, to offer innovative and high quality research designed to evaluate medical technologies and provide decision makers with rigorous, relevant evidence. We work in multi-disciplinary teams integrating mathematical modelling, database analytics, evidence synthesis, epidemiology and biostatistics. The Modelling & Simulation group at UBC has been at the forefront of mathematical modelling in the field, and is involved in diverse projects in health economics, epidemiology, public health and clinical trial simulation. We’re looking for motivated, creative and collaborative individuals who take pride in academic rigour and are open to expanding their research skills, and working with others to maintain UBC’s reputation as a world-class healthcare research organization.
Manages and implements research project activities/tasks. Helps manage multiple projects with tasks varying to degree by project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned)
•Implement one or more of the following under direction:
°Model design development
°Conduct basic statistical or other analyses
°Conduct literature reviews with emphasis on extracting data pertinent to economic evaluations
°Handle other study design elements
°Maintain and develop scientific resources
•Draft project deliverables (reports, dossiers, protocols, spreadsheets, etc) and draft abstracts and sections of manuscripts with possible co-authorship.
•Track budget and expenses and monitor timelines and deliverables.
•Support other "non-billable" activities as needed (e.g. draft and co-sign proposals; informal mentoring of junior staff; develop relations with colleagues within the company).
•Travel may be required
•Knowledge of fundamentals of pharmacoeconomics, epidemiology and literature review principles
•Practical knowledge of research project implementation
•Familiarity with mathematical modeling
•Strong quantitative skills, with solid understanding of statistics
Education and Experience
Relevant PhD (e.g., Economics, Epidemiology, Public Health), though PhD in other fields will be considered, with relevant experience. Masters degree with 2-3 years of directly relevant experience.
Competent in written and spoken English.
MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel; ability to use Access with interface provided (may learn ARENA).
