We seek outstanding candidates to apply for the Research Assistant/Associate position available in the Protein Isolation and Biochemistry group of the Protein Chemistry Department. This position is primarily responsible for generating high quality protein reagents used in multiple high-impact projects throughout the Research organization at Genentech. The candidate will isolate recombinant proteins expressed in bacterial, baculovirus and mammalian systems. Various column chromatography techniques such as affinity, gel filtration, ion exchange, and RP-HPLC will be employed and will be operated on AKTA chromatography workstations. The candidate will become efficient at performing protein characterization analyses that include but are not limited to SDS-PAGE gel, mass spectrometry, light-scattering analysis and circular dichroism. Refolding of challenging and difficult proteins driven into inclusion bodies from E. coli will also be performed.
In our effort to help advance high-caliber research projects, the candidate will also focus on developing, implementing, and advancing new technologies that are designed to optimize current work processes. To support drug discovery and development, the candidate will play a key role as the group’s representative in project team meetings to provide purification results, updates and give presentations when necessary.

BA/BS/MS or equivalent experienceStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Team oriented, dependable, self starter. Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions. The candidate will preferably have 1-3 years of demonstrated work with proteins. Candidate must be highly motivated, like working in a team environment and have strong interpersonal capabilities. Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task, and meet timelines efficiently and productively.
