Research, Finance Business Administration (RFBA) invites applications from UO employees to fill the position of Research Business Manager/Senior Manager. This position is responsible for budget monitoring and forecasts; prepare projections and analysis as needed; monitors actual spending against budgeted; and working on transactional level activities on assigned subgroups for the Research Innovation and Graduate Education (RIGE) division such as but not limited to the Graduate School and Research Centers and Institutes. The individual in the position coordinates and provides guidance on expenditures, budget setting and personnel actions for assigned RIGE units and activities. The position provides oversight of and coordinates with unit business managers/staff to ensure sound budget management and uniformity in divisional operations. This position is expected to conduct research, analysis and summarize information needed for administrative action. This position interprets administrative policies and procedures, and provides technical assistance to unit heads, business managers and administrative staff.

The successful candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for working with financial data and numerical analysis with a strong working knowledge of policy, rule and practice associated with financial and personnel administration at the University of Oregon. We are seeking candidates who are highly sophisticated users of BANNER, strategic, creative, principled, diplomatic/collaborative, and intelligent. It is our expectation that the finalist will have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse backgrounds and will maintain the highest ethical standards as a leader within their unit and within the university.

This position reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Research Finance and Business Administration. Collegial units/individuals that affiliate with this position in RIGE include but are not limited to Divisional Budget Manager, Fiscal Manager, Administrative Manager, Graduate School Associate and Assistant Deans, and Center and Institute Directors and Budget Managers.

Minimum Qualifications

A BA/BS from an accredited institution of higher education; AND two (2) years or more of progressively responsible financial and budgetary experience within an executive level (Dean, Provost, VP or equivalent) office; OR

Four (4) years or more of progressively responsible financial and budgetary experience within an executive level (Dean, Provost, VP or equivalent) office; AND

Two (2) years or more of supervising staff engaged in accounting/financial analysis/personnel appointments; AND

Evidence of strong organizational skills and capability to prioritize one’s own workload; AND

Effective interpersonal skills and experience in serving a diverse client/customer base from a customer service orientation.

Minimum Qualifications for Senior Budget Manager

A BA/BS from an accredited institution of higher education; AND three(3) years or more of progressively responsible financial and budgetary experience within an executive level (Dean, Provost, VP or equivalent) office; OR

Seven (7) years or more of progressively responsible financial and budgetary experience within an executive level (Dean, Provost, VP or equivalent) office; AND

Four (4) years or more of supervising staff engaged in accounting/financial analysis/personnel appointments; AND

Evidence of strong organizational skills and capability to prioritize one’s own workload as well as the workload of others; AND

Effective interpersonal skills and experience in serving a diverse client/customer base from a customer service orientation.

Initial salary will be commensurate with salary history, experience and skill set.
