Job Description Summary
The Research Engineer/Scientist I – IT provides general support and administration of MTRI computer networks and computer systems. Provide support and administration of classified computing systems. Provide computer software development support to research and development programs. The position is based at MTRI in Ann Arbor, MI (www.mtri.org).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
1. Maintain MTRI’s information technology (IT) infrastructure and establish an IT policy.
2. Provide support and administration of computer networks and computer systems.
3. Act as Information System Security Officer ( ISSO ) for closed area computing facility.
4. Interact with Michigan Technological University’s IT infrastructure and personnel to provide interoperability, compatibility and compliance with University policy and infrastructure.
5. Provide recommendations to MTRI administration regarding MTRI IT hardware maintenance and improvements.
Required Education (minimum requirements)
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
Three years experience in computer/network support and administration.
Three years experience administrating Linux and Windows platforms.
Experience maintaining Windows servers.
Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance, which requires United States citizenship.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
Experience as ISSO , ISSM or equivalent in a Secret/Top Secret level facility.
Experience with COMSEC procedures.
3-5 years experience administrating Linux and Windows platforms.
Experience with large data storage facilities.
Experience with high-performance computing systems.
Experience with evaluating and purchasing IT hardware and software.
Experience with audio-visual and multimedia equipment.
Experience writing and maintaining research grade code.
Experience programming with one or more programming languages, such as C/C++, Python, and shell scripting.

Ability to communicate with management and staff regarding policy and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
