Scope of the Job
Under the direction of the Division Director and Division Chief, or assignee, supervises, coordinates, educates and administers a funded research studies/activities or group of associated activities. Coordinates, develops and administers research trial activities on behalf of the Director. Assist in project planning and ensures that established work scope study protocol and regulatory requirements are prepared and followed.
The essential functions are the primary dimensions for performance review.
Management of research staff to include interviewing and hiring, performance evaluations, leave requests, and disciplinary actions.
Coordinates and prepares Initial Institution Review Board (IRB) submissions, serves as liaison for communications between the IRB and department investigators in project commissioning.
May coordinate the procurement and disposition of research facilities and/or equipment; establishes and coordinates logistical arrangements for research subjects and outreach activities as appropriate to the study.
Responsible for managing budgets and billing the industry for trial costs – monitoring charges expended against research grants and projects and coordinated payment with the industry.
Liaison between the department and other UF Shands/Jacksonville Departments.
Monitor all site performance parameters and report these to the appropriate study personnel along with suggestions for improvement when necessary.
Provides consultation, makes recommendations, gives appropriate advice, and/or facilitates decisions on behalf of research faculty.
Monthly meeting with attending to inform/discuss status of current trails, development of new trials, approval of upcoming trials, and protocol deviations.
Conduct pre-site evaluation visits and site start-up initiations with sponsor. Coordinates trail/grant development activities by review and preparation, financial disclosures, intellectual property agreements; reviews contract proposals, supplies bios ketches, obtains requisite approvals for project applications and ensures completeness of submissions to the Office of Research Affairs.
Coordinate salary expense allocations for Cardiology research personnel. Manage contract and UFJPI billing and audit for accuracy. Process and track all vendor invoices.
Provide in-house research studies with necessary materials equipment and personnel (including PhDs). Support the development of NIH and AHA grants. Manage the study grants budget as well as accounts payable and purchasing.
Development of a business plan, including marketing (sponsor, physician and patient oriented) budgeting and accounting. Expand plan to include satellite offices as well as area cardiologist
Logistics and performance of new sponsored research protocols. Manage Research staff and assure research trails are conducted according to protocols. Define timelines and goals for enrollments. Ensures compliance with regulatory offices and agencies and sponsored trial accounting standards.
Coordinate at least one clinical trial.
Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations. Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures and levels of responsibility. Required to make independent judgments without supervision. Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Business, operational and accounting experience.
- Knowledge in research regulatory.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with a diverse community.
- Ability to interact with variety of profession staff levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical skills to perform review of monthly financial reports.
- Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignment.
- Ability to organize resources and establish priorities.
- Previous research experience.
- Knowledge in grant application process
Minimum 1-year experience in research preferred or 2 years experience in health care management. Ideal candidate will possess skills in Finances/Marketing/Public Relations/Budgeting. Management experience preferred.
Education and Certifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
