Under limited direction, will be responsible for assisting efforts to develop web server project in a scientific environment, which will include developing algorithms, databases, and services.
Will work in an interdisciplinary group responsible for the data management and analysis core for Scripps Center for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology & Immunogen Discovery (CHAVI-ID). Will be responsible for assisting in the design, implementation and management of the central website and database for the project including performing data validation, manipulation and testing; ensuring accuracy of data and reports; and developing complex database queries and reports; work within a diverse team of immunology specialists to develop and implement sophisticated data storage strategies; develop web services to display/query database content; troubleshoot or modify policies and procedures as needed; and other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.
Requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Information Systems, or a related field and a minimum of 7 years (and typically up to 10 years) of directly related, cumulative experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Candidates with a master’s degree, 3 years of experience required.
Must possess a demonstrated in-depth knowledge and understanding information technology in a scientific environment, as well as directly-related experience designing and implementing scientific computing solutions in collaboration with scientific teams. Requires demonstrated experience with data management and analysis theories and techniques.
Requires demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the following systems, languages, and processes:
Developing programs using multiple languages (both compiled and scripting);
Working with AJAX technologies;
APIs and other tools used to programmatically generate web pages;
Experience with web authoring and graphic applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash;
Experience working with and knowledge of SQL based databases (Oracle, Mysql); and
Experience working with Drupal or other Content Management System.
