Under direction, the Research Specialist participates in the administration and implementation of trial research programs at the health center. This position will work directly with study participants and ensure that study protocols are followed accurately. Too, the individual will compile necessary records and perform data entry and other administrative tasks for the trials. This individual will be an active member of team of professionals that are responsible for the administration and implementation of research programs, assuring that study protocols are accurately followed at all types.
We are seeking a full-time research specialist who will: (1) assist with recruiting and enrollment of new clients into the various trial programs at Whitman-Walker, conducting basic interviews and facilitating completion of pre-study questionnaires; (2) create and implement retention programs to proactively reduce subject dropout rates; (3) assist research nursing team by coordinating all patient research visits, maintaining contact with study population over the duration of the study period; (4) assist in ensuring that all protocols are strictly followed, compiling lab results and reviewing interview forms and questionnaires for completeness; (5) provide program information and educational material to prospective or current clients to facilitate client's understanding of protocols and treatments; (6) coordinate referrals for case management, primary care and specialty care as necessary; and, (7) perform other duties as assigned by the department leaders and appropriate to the position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TALENTS REQUIRED:
The incumbent will be expected to possess: (1) k nowledge of contemporary research into HIV and AIDS, especially with regard to clinical trials and the provisioning of medicines and treatments still being researched; (2) knowledge of general protocols for clinical trials and related programs, specifically as relates to the duties of the medical provider and ethical standards in communicating with patients; (3) highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to function efficiently as part of a multidisciplinary team in facilitating the clinical trial programs; (4) an ability to conduct sensitive, empathetic interviews that respect the dignity and diversity of clients; (5) an ability to prepare accurate, concise and comprehensive reports; (6) an ability to maintain client records and information in an accurate, timely and confidential manner; (7) excellent organizational skills; (8) proficiency in use of computer word processing and data entry programs including MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) with v2010 preferred; (9) the ability to maintain client records and information in an accurate, timely and confidential manner; and (10) the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with accuracy in environment that changes quickly with priorities that shift often.
A 37.50-hour work week is a general requirement, with a Monday through Friday schedule being typical. Some early morning and late evening coverage may be required depending on scheduling requirements. This position will be located at our NW site ( Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center ).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a medical sciences-related field (biology, research, etc.) or at least four years of direct medical care and/or clinical research experience. A Master’s Degree or post-bachelor’s education is preferred. At least one year of clinical research or laboratory research experience required. Experience working with an ethnically, culturally and racially diverse work staff is preferred. The ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals is essential.
Working conditions for this position are normal for a clinical environment. Individual may be required to work evenings and / or weekends.
Lifting: No more than 20 lbs and infrequently.
Movement: Standing and sitting for long periods.
Visual: Long periods on computer.
Concentration: Extended periods of engagement with clients where concentration is key to accuracy in research administration and when using medical instruments.
Communication: Direct and indirect communication. Written and verbal aquity.
