The IT & Wireless Convergence Department at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center is seeking Research Staff Member candidates in the area of Information and network sciences with an emphasis on wireless hybrid networks and cloud computing. The research mission is to discover fundamental principles and build prototype systems that can be used to understand, analyze, and manage hybrid wireless networks that are creating the basic fabric for a smarter planet. We are also engaged in a mission to build advanced technology for cloud computing systems. Successful candidates will need to have a broad range of expertise to define appropriate abstractions and models to capture the essence of networking characteristics and their interactions with one another. The projects will require a mixture of theoretical developments followed by validation by means of large-scale simulations or emulation, and prototype implementations of advanced techniques. Examples of the research topics include convergence of IT and wireless technologies including real-time wireless data-to-decision; declarative networking for management of network applications; secure hybrid networks for coalition missions; advanced networking technologies such as multi-path TCP, byte caching, and named data networking; VM and datacenter network management in cloud systems; data analytics prototypes for scalable management of the Internet of Things; etc. The position offers opportunities to work with researchers with a wide range of expertise (for example, see International Technology Alliance webpage at http://www.usukita.org). The project will require creativity and innovation that advance the frontiers of science while generating technologies that can be used in the near future to improve our daily lives.
