Your contributions are rewarded with a highly competitive compensation package and a healthy work-life balance, and training that will open doors to your future.Position Overview Reporting to the Long Lake Special Projects Manager in the Oil Sands Division, the primary responsibility for this role is to provide reservoir engineering support and technical expertise to the Long Lake operations and to evaluate wind down strategies.The position being recruited for will appeal to the candidate that values the opportunity to make an immediate impact and contribute to the field implementation of cutting edge EOR technologies in the context of an existing SAGD development.Job Duties/Responsibilities Evaluate and determine optimal SAGD wind down strategies and timing to maximize recovery, minimize SOR, and support offsetting well pairs; Research and evaluate industry wind down technologies and field results; Finalize wind down strategy through technical and economic analyses; Design, obtain regulatory approval and initiate a SAGD wind down trial; Support detailed evaluation and prediction of full life cycle SAGD performance; Stay abreast of industry leading technologies to enhance and optimize SAGD performance; Support team efforts in EOR initiatives such as solvent injection, non-condensable gas (NCG) injection and in-situ combustion, etc.; Initiate and manage specific reservoir engineering projects related to solvent and NCG injection as required; Assist in the development of reservoir engineering workflows.
Education/Experience B.Sc. in a relevant engineering discipline and a minimum 10 years total reservoir engineering experience; Prior experience in providing reservoir engineering input into SAGD and or thermal projects including experience with pilot projects would be an asset; Experience in reservoir simulation using STARS, Eclipse, and/or Exotherm is an asset; Strong oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to show initiative and well-honed analytical and problem solving skills; Ability to proactively and efficiently collaborate with technical experts within the company as well as with external partners to identify and adopt new technology and best practices; Ability to identify and mitigate risk to maximize return; Behaviors: Desire to mentor less experienced engineers; Creative problem solving ability with the ability to think outside the box; Deliver desired results safely, on time and on budget while maintaining or enhancing relationships; Understand and support the Nexen culture, holding self and others accountable for consistently demonstrating desired behaviors consistent with a respectful work force and best practices to.
