Job Description:Residential Staff Support 2:
NHS Human Services is looking for a Residential Staff
Support 2 in the Johnstown area.

Available Shift:
Rotating schedule 7am-3pm / 3pm-11pm

Position Summary:
The Residential Support Staff 2 (RSS) interacts with and
supports the individual in a variety of potential
settings, including community, family or individual
homes and generic community settings, as well as Adult
Training Facilities (ATF). The RSS II provides personal
care, instruction, guidance, mentoring, companionship
and support, often across a 24 hour period, according to
the individual's Person Centered Plan/Individual Support
Plan (ISP). The RSS II provides a level of care that
enhances the health, safety, dignity and contentment of
every consumer served.

General Responsibilities:

in the NHS Handbook and established by the NHS
Corporate Integrity Program.
4. Present professionally and respectfully in dress,

and coworkers.
6. Attend all training as scheduled by management
7. Utilize all NHS property appropriately and
responsibly.
8. Refrain from personal business at work.
9. Be flexible and available in scheduling to maintain
program integrity.

command.

PROGRAMMATIC RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
11. Active member of the team in program and plan
development
12. Demonstrate initiative and personal responsibility
for the health and welfare of the individual
13. Respectfully listen to and communicate with
consumers, families, co workers, management and
community members
14. Protect each person's dignity in the home,
workplace and community.
15. Demonstrate full knowledge of plans and required
supports of each consumer served
16. Facilitate quality healthcare by being aware of
medical issues, transporting individuals as
assigned, and effectively communicating with the
health care professional.
17. Observe individual behavior/symptoms of mental
illness and inform supervisor and/or Psychiatric
Doctor of any unpredictable or worrisome behavior.
18. Provide assessment, observation and documentation
related to psychiatric symptoms and the anticipated
needs in stabilizing the individuals and their
mental health concerns.
19. Assist each individual in utilizing personal funds
according to NHS policy and standards.
20. Facilitate opportunities for community access,
participation and membership for each individual,
including safe transportation.
21. Organize and implement developmental activities to
aid the individuals in socialization, appropriate
behavior in the community and their home living
environment.
22. Provide and support a variety of leisure
activities and opportunities in the home or
facility, including personal preferences as well as
exposure to new and different activities that are
safe and age appropriate.
23. Maintain a safe and clean environment by dusting,
sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, scouring, and
otherwise cleaning all areas of the home or NHS
facility, to the standards and schedule established
by NHS.
24. Maintain the clothing, linens and towels of each
consumer by completing laundry as scheduled or
assigned or necessary.
25. Assure garbage is stored in a closed container and
placed for disposal weekly as assigned.
26. Respond to behavioral challenges in a positive and
proactive manner, according to defined behavioral
support plans.
27. Effectively implement physical intervention
techniques when necessary to maintain the safety of
the individual, yourself or your coworkers.
28. Adequately document daily progress, medical
concerns, community access, etc., as defined by the
individual's plan.
29. Read and review required communication logs, memos
and progress notes to maximize knowledge of each
individual and work site.
30. Provide appropriate level of assistance in
personal care, hygiene, meal preparation and
feeding, dressing, transfer and lifting, according
to each person's unique needs.
31. Effectively report both internal and reportable
incidents to management as defined by NHS and OMR
policies.Knowledge and understanding of applicable
regulations, per the Office of Developmental
Programs.
32. Precisely administer medication to individuals
according to certified medication administration
standards
33. Safely transport individuals to community
appointments and functions, according to the defined
processes and policies of NHS
34. Maintain a safe and clean environment by dusting,
sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, scouring, and
otherwise cleaning all areas of the home or
facility, to the standards and schedule established
by NHS.
35. Maintain the clothing, linens and towels of each
consumer by completing laundry as assigned and
scheduled.
36. Maintain safe, neat exterior to NHS homes and
properties. This may include cutting grass, trimming
shrubbery, weeding areas, shoveling snow, clearing
ice and debris.
37. Complete grocery shopping and other general
errands.
38. Prepare healthy meals according to consumer choice
and/or established menus, or assist the individual
in safe consumption of meals that accompany each
person to program.
39. Complete minor household or facility repairs and
improvements. (ex. painting )
40. Assure garbage is stored in a closed container and
placed for disposal weekly.
NHS is an EOE

Job Requirements:
Age 18 or older
60 College Credits with 1 –year experience in Human
Services or 15 College Credits with 18 months experience
in Human Services or 5 years experience directly working
with a person with disabilities.
Criminal Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance and FBI
Clearance (when consumer is under the age of 18)
Valid Driving License.
Experience in Human Services preferred
Physical Exam including free from communicable disease
statement and mantoux required, all prior to hire.
