Program Summary:
The Retail Management Internship Program teaches the basics of the college retail industry and the fundamentals of retailing at the University of Florida Bookstore . Throughout the summer, the intern will have an opportunity to work alongside Follett Higher Education Group's store operations leaders in a world-class retail environment. Each week, the intern will focus on a different aspect of store operations while simultaneously participating in activities and projects that contribute to his or her professional and personal development.
  • May 20 - July 26, 2013 (10 week program)
  • Paid hourly, full-time
  • Must complete pre-employment background check process
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Participate in all weekly projects and activities as assigned and guided by store management and a field training manager
  • Learn the fundamentals of customer service as well as selling and service strategies in the unique collegiate retailing industry and provide outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers
  • Partner with management, customers, and associates to understand and then analyze business trends while seeking to maximize business potential
  • Prepare and present a defined capstone project to management

  • Junior or senior standing, currently enrolled at the University of Florida
  • GPA of 3.0/4.0 or above
  • All majors are welcome to apply; business related curriculum is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to identify and solve problems
  • Strong computer proficiencies in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point with the ability to efficiently learn new technologies
  • Excellent customer service acumen
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Previous retail experience is a plus
