We are currently seeking a Scientific Communications Editor (with a Science degree) to work with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The contractor shall: 1. Write and edit science-related materials for distribution via NIAID news releases and other vehicles, including the NIAID website, and NIAID social media properties.2. Keep apprised of news developments in the fields of allergy, immunology, and transplantation.3. Translate dense, scientific subject matter into plain language for consumption by the general public, Congress, and advocacy community.4. Work with NIAID scientists and division staff to develop news releases, media advisories, and feature stories about NIAID-funded research.5. Ensure that content submitted for posting to NIAID vehicles adheres to approved grammar, usage, and style as found in the NIAID Style Guide.6. Coordinate with staff from NIAID offices and divisions during the content review process, including setting expectations, establishing deadlines, negotiating edits and other changes, and moving approved content toward publication.7. Collaborate with members of the media to arrange interviews with NIAID subject matter experts.8. Establish productive working relationships with NIAID scientists and division staff to help identify upcoming papers that may warrant publicity by the Institute.REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have: 1. Master degree in a science-related field with 2+ years of experience as described above in TASKS.OR BS degree in a science related field with 4+ years of experience as described above in TASKS.2. Computer skills to include MS Office Suite. 3. Proficiency in proofreading and editing. 4. Experience in organizing information and gathering information related to the development of reports, briefings, and media outreach. 5.
