This position is represented by the Public Employees, Local 71 and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and Public Employees, Local 71.

HOURS OF WORK: Schedule varies: 4/10s, Monday - Sunday., 6:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
LOCATION OF WORK: Horticulture Greenhouses - 1321 Lidia Selkregg Lane
This position for the summer seasonal Gardener I starting from mid April, 2013 through mid September, 2013.
Example of Duties:
Greenhouse plant production and maintenance, environment monitoring and control, tropical plant care, maintenance of the public greenhouses, carrying heavy plants, loading and delivering to planting sites, and planting and maintaining flowers. Landscape and grounds maintenance including tree and shrub planting, watering, fertilizing, pruning, weed control, mulching, and ground maintenance to be neat and attractive. Pick up trash and litter. Maintenance of all tools and equipment used. Plant and maintain the flower beds within the Municipality of Anchorage facilities, and keep the surrounding grounds maintained and clean. Follow Zone Leader's instructions and other duties as assigned.
Experience in greehouse annual plant production which includes monitoring greenhouse temperatures, watering, fertilizing, transplanting seedlings, spacing plants, loading plants on trucks for delivery, and driving the large delivery vans. Experience in flower plant maintenance. Knowledge and experience in landscape tree and shrub planting and maintenance. Experience in the use of pruners, chain saws, trimmers and chippers. Must be able to work with other staff members as a part of a Zone team.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Special Qualifications:
Three (3) months experience in greenhouse, horticulture, or landscape maintenance work, and in the use of associated equipment. Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver's license.
All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a copy of the applicant’s Alaska Driver’s License and a current copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver’s license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.
