SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The ideal candidate works with minimal direction and occasional oversight from the Regulatory Director. Position works independently to research and respond to routine and in-depth regulatory inquirIes with a particular focus on the firm’s capital markets business units; actively coordinates and directs the Firm regulatory exams, regulatory inquires and sweeps including research, validating data, pre-work, on-site requests, resolving issues, drafting responses and performing follow-up. The analyst is expected to be knowledgeable in the Firm and industry policies/procedures, and have a strong knowledge of industry products, capital markets focus (i.e. trading and trade reporting, public finance, investment banking, research, syndicate rules), and Stifel’s lines of business. The candidate must be adept at bringing closure to business issues, questions or request across business and product lines which arise from the regulatory circumstance. Candidate must be able to multi-task and work with regulatory deadlines. Recommends and oversees the implementation of corrective actions resulting from regulatory findings letters. The candidate exercises discretion and independent judgment.

MAJOR DUTIES

Validates and analyzes data, documents, and information delivered to regulatory entities. Ensuring accurate data delivery to the inquiries for all business lines including request from SEC, FINRA, MSRB, CBOE, Federal Reserve, FDIC or other bank and securities regulatory bodies.

Compliance liaison and compliance expert pre, post and during regulatory examinations of the firm and its affiliates including gathering documents, completing questionnaires surrounding the firm’s business, attend meetings with various departments.

Strong ability to analyze reports and data regarding trading with emphasis in areas such as OTC fixed income, trading ahead, mark-up reviews, Reg M, OATS, TRACE, SEC Rule 604, investment banking chronologies and market timeliness, to name a few.

Gathers applicable documents and drafts responses to routine and in-depth regulatory inquiries, including sweeps, regarding the firm’s and affiliate’s business, policies and/or procedures within stated deadlines.

Works with other departments to resolve issues noted in regulatory examinations, drafts responses to regulatory examinations and performs follow-up to ensure deficiencies are corrected.

Reviews regulatory rulemaking and guidance from a variety of sources to remain current on Industry rules.

Performs compliance-related reviews to various inquiries or projects and determines whether they fall within the firm’s guidelines.

Corresponds and interacts with regulators and various business units throughout the Firm and its affiliates; including trading desk staff, bankers, research analysts, Financial Advisors, Branch Managers, home office operations and managers and the Legal Department.

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

BS in Business, Finance, or related field

5 years of industry experience required; preferably compliance experience.

Series 7, 63/66, 9 and 10 required

Strong understanding of SEC, FINRA, MSRB rules/regulations, industry practice and how they apply to Stifel and affiliated firm policies and procedures.

Demonstrated skills in organization, strong attention to details, prioritizing and managing time, multiple tasks and varying priorities in order to meet critical deadlines.

Interpersonal Relationships — Developing, and maintaining constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and sustaining them over time.

Technical Writing – Able to gather information from research, existing documentation and subject matter experts, and effectively explain complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.

Active listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Judgment and Decision Making – Considers the relative cost, benefits, and firm policy of potential actions and to choose the most appropriate action according to Firm and Team risk.
