Summary: Responsible for the maintenance, alterations, and repairs of show performers’ costume pieces. Works closely with the entertainers to ensure all alterations and finished jobs meet and/or exceed expected standards.

Essential Functions:
• Performs all alterations on the performers’ costumes to ensure proper fit; including hemming, adjusting waist bands, replacing zippers, and lengthening.
• Alterations may occur during show, in between sets, or in between shows
• Creates basic costume pieces, as needed, using existing patterns
• Launders, steams, and presses performers’ costumes in-between shows, as needed
• Handles and repairs sweaty costumes
• Works with both male and females and their costume pieces
• Other duties as assigned

• Previous experience working in the same or similar position within a showroom environment
• Previous experience accurately fitting, pinning, and marking men’s and women’s costumes while costumes are being worn
• Previous experience taking accurate measurements on both men and women
• Previous experience spot cleaning and pressing
• Knowledge and experience working on industrial sewing machines, walking foot machines, sergers, blind hemmers, and pressing equipment, using patterns to cut fabric, sewing/construction of clothing, hand stitching and alterations required
• Comfortable working in a backstage environment where performers change costumes/undress in full view
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate in small group situations
• Must be able to work swing shift and weekends
• Minimum 18 years of age
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

• Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 lbs
• Use tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity
• Work for sustained periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail
• Need to distinguish between shades of colors
• Vision, speech, hearing, and literacy (critical)
• Ability to work in a smoky, noisy, fast-paced showroom environment with both bright lights and very little lighting, some dust, & hot and cold temperatures
• Ability to communicate vocally utilizing portable radios and telephones (critical)
