SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT for self contained multi-categorical students

$9.27 Per Hour (entry level) +benefits and single-plan insurance
Two years of study in an institution of higher educaiton which meets the requirements to obtain an EVSC substitute certificate; or an associate's degree or higher; or can demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics by having passed the state approved formal Para-Pro Assessment.
Assist teachers in the classroom or in resource settings with daily activities and student management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.
Assist teacher in routine classroom operation i.e. tutoring etc.
Prepare planned instructional materials, attendance reports and class reports.
Supervise students involved in non classroom activities; recess, lunch etc.
Implement/follow teacher instructions of classroom procedures; reinforcement, philosophy and consistency.
Make appropriate referrals when difficulties arise and teacher is not readily available.
Assist with clerical duties; inventory, bulletin boards, collecting money etc.
Demonstrate an understanding of students' problems, keeps a firm hand yet is courteous.
Keep records, write lessons on the board, correct student's work.
Assist with loading and unloading of students on buses.
In specific classes, will feed, toilet, and manage self-care needs.
Responsibilities may include non-medical procedures concerning personal hygiene of the students in addition to g-tube feedings.
Maintain regular attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
(A) Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education which meets the requirements to obtain an E-VSC substitute certificate; or (B) obtained an associate's degree (or higher); or (C) met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics by having passed the state approved formal Para Pro Assessment. Previous experience with students with disabilities is not essential but helpful. Must be trained or willing to be trained in Safe Crisis Management Staff Certification.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to work with disabled students specific to those disabilities being served. Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and board of school trustees policies. In specific program areas, other skills may be required, i.e., brailling skills in vision area, interpreting skills in hearing area.
