Our client has an immediate opening for a database administrator [DBA] to execute ongoing support of a growing infrastructure. In this role, the DBA will support critical IT services and applications, and will provide production, development and QA support for installed databases. The incumbent will be required to recover databases from backups and archive logs, perform analyses of database problems and provide solutions. There will also be duties associated with remote support of databases to assure the highest availability of operations and e-commerce applications. The DBA will ensure the integrity, security and performance of our business databases and applications to accurately provide expected task completion dates.

Basic requirements:

Good knowledge on MS SQL server 2000 MSDE, Standard and Enterprise

Experience with Performance Manager, Capacity Planner and Trace Data Viewer

Able to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects with minimal supervision

Excellent oral and written communications skills

Hands on experience in using tools or custom scripts to monitor the health of the database

Replication experience, specifically MS SQL 2005 subscriptions & publications, in addition to backup and recovery implementations either in a stand-alone or using recovery management tools

Set up and manage MS SQL reporting technology, specifically 2005 SQL Server Integration Services and SQL Server Reporting Services

Set up MS SQL database server & automate jobs related to database

Prepared MS SQL object naming standards & prepared T-SQL coding standards

Create, manage and maintain the database diagrams, dictionaries for MS SQL server databases

Support deployments of application code & database code into integration testing, user testing & further to final production servers

Proven ability to mentor developers in how to properly write SQL statements

Experience working with software architects to proactively design and optimize databases and their underlying hardware and OS platforms to meet future capacity planning needs in a high growth environment

Occasional off-hours work required

Additional skills that would be a plus:

Experienced with troubleshooting and monitoring skills related to database performance

Good knowledge of Virtual Servers on which MS SQL server databases reside

Familiarity with how .Net applications or Cold Fusion applications connect to MS SQL databases to support database related activities

Familiarity with MS SQL server 2008, 2012 MS SQL express 2008, 2012 databases

Familiarity with other competing operating systems Linux, etc.

Familiarity with other competing database systems MySQL, Sybase or Oracle, etc.


Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Minimum 5 years of Database Administration experience with SQL Server 2005/2008 as the lead database administrator

Experience writing SQL/T-SQL, stored procedures, triggers, data base design, backups, referential integrity and monitor system usage and performance
