As an IT professional you have expert knowledge in one or more programming languages or databases. Because of your excellent understanding of the entire project life cycle, you have the ability to direct project teams in the gathering, design, and development of complex applications/programs. The Home Depot Supply Chain is improving efficiencies of Product Flow through the overall Distribution Network, which will require significant systems improvements over multiple years. These initiatives will require energetic individuals to lead and develop these system improvements to realize the desired business value.

The Senior IT Developer will be responsible for participating in medium to large projects through the full development lifecycle process. They must have a strong and detailed understanding of each of their tasks as part of an overall project, and the ability to present status to immediate leadership. The candidate must have excellent skills in SDLC including requirements gathering, program design and coding, testing best practices, and implementation support. The Senior Developer has the ability to work with team members to define the correct solution based on requirements and architecture guidelines. Must be able to present ideas to other team members and architects to arrive at the correct solution. The candidate will work closely with other team members to execute project tasks and keep tasks on schedule. The candidate has implemented current technologies in other areas previously and be able to transition that experience to new areas allowing quick understanding of new systems and Business processes.

The Sr. Developer has proficient knowledge of multiple programming languages along with the ability to take business requirements and develop the total technical design for an entire application to be run in production. The Sr. Developer has the ability to lay out requirements for the project team. Ability to guide and direct work on multiple projects and ensure proper usage as part of the design efforts in building a system to be put into production. Thorough understanding of life cycle development through production implementation and post implementation. The Sr. Developer has the ability to present at the various architecture review boards. Display strategic view of applications and how they fit into the whole retail space.

Define, plan and implement solutions on assigned moderately complex projects.

Take business requirements and develop the total technical design on moderately complex projects and ensure proper usage as part of the design efforts in building a system to be put into production.

Conduct appropriate test reviews for assigned projects and present to architecture review boards as necessary.

Promote and follow the established processes, policies, standards and procedures to assure compliance with corporate and regulatory policies and standards.

Provide technical direction to associate developers, developers and contractors.

Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses.

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.


Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.


Key functional and technical skills:
The Senior Developer must work closely with architects to ensure proper system design, and ensure highest quality implementations from design through QA to production. Has previous experience developing Supply Chain applications. The Senior Developer must have and be able to promote an appropriate sense of urgency in regard to deliverables, and be able to effectively partner with the team and the business to develop and deliver IT solutions. Key hands on functional and technical skills:
Experience with forecast and replenishment type processes and/or applications.
Experience with Inventory Management type applications or development
Java development with focus on web development (JSP, Servlet, JMS, JDBC, J2EE Security, Struts)
Understanding of standard web frameworks and languages (HTML, HTML5, CSS, Javacript, AJAX)
Knowledge of standard web service development frameworks and methodologies (SOAP and RESTful)
Experience with standard SQL against DB2/UDB, Oracle, Informix, or SQLServer
Experience with developing applications using Cobol and other development languages
Familiarity with Rich Internet Application Development (FLEX, Silverlight)
General proficiency in XML

Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

Ability to communicate issues and recommend solutions in a timely manner to Management.

Strong decision making abilities.

Experience developing new application systems for production.
