Provide technical guidance, knowledge, and support of university managed IT resources with a focus on the Student Lab enviroment and the Virtual Desktop Infrastucture to include but not limited to:

Networked and Stand-Alone Workstations


Local and Networked Printers

Client and server Side applications

Research and development of deployment technologies for client/server applications, policies and procedures to effectively manage the university's enterprise environment using industry best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of supporting the current versions Microsoft Windows or the current Apple OS operating systems in a server/client environment. A basic understanding (knowledge) of: Hardware and software diagnostics and troubleshooting of desktop workstations and peripherals. Network topographies, devices, protocols, and concepts. Workstations security best practices to safeguard against spyware, viruses, intrusion, software and operating system exploits.

Demonstrated ability to: Effectively manage their time and prioritize task to handle multiples projects and deadlines. The ability to think clearly and solve complex problems under pressure. Basic experience or knowledge of project life cycle from research and development, planning, implementation, and maintenance. Effectively communicate both orally and in writing to provide support, documentation, and occasionally training to both technical and non-technical customers and peers.

Work independently with minimal supervision or with a team in completing tasks and assignments. The ability to coordinate with other System Administrators or vendor support in solving problems or completing IT related projects. Experienced with providing customer service to users and peers.

Preferred Qualifications

Experienced in IT Resource Management: Inventory Management, Hard/Software Life-cycle Replacement,

Procurement Advisory skills to recognize end-user user needs and requirements and develop a solution and or recommendation under budgetary, system, and university policy constraints.

Experienced in performing these administrative tasks in an Microsoft Enterprise Environment: Employing industry best practices in managing user and system rights.

Managing user and workstations through Group policies in either AD or Local Workstation Policies. Familiarity the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). Installing and configuring Networked Printers. SUS Patch Management or equivalent. Enterprise managed Anti-virus and Firewall software suites. Documentation of projects and procedures. Installing and configuring Workstations for an enterprise environment. he ability to automate administrative tasks. Experienced in performing administrative task in a Microsoft and Apple Integrated Environment: Employing industry best practices in managing user and system rights in Open Directory,

Development of Apple Preferences deployed through Apple OS, Apple Patch Management, Documentation of projects and procedures, Installing and configuring Workstations for an enterprise environment, Developing of applications in Apple Script or in equivalent code for Desktop Support or Management. Experience troubleshooting OS X server and related services. Experienced with Workstations and Software Virtualization configuration, implementation, use, and troubleshooting of virtual workstations or applications. VMware's Workstations/Parallels, Microsoft's Virtual PC, SunOS's VirtualBox, or any other related Virtualization suites.

Programming experience in developing applications that assist in desktop management in these languages but not limited to: Visual Basic Script, C/C++/C#, WMI, Batch, - WinBatch, Apple Script, Auto-IT.

Experienced with Enterprise Desktop Management in a Microsoft or Apple OS X Enterprise Environment using these software suites or equivalent: LanDesk, Wise Package Studio or any MSI developmental tool, Altiris & Apple Remote Desktop.

Experienced in troubleshoot and repair software and Operating System problems down to the granular details in any of these:

  • Email Suites
  • Anti-Virus
  • Anti-Spyware
  • Firewall
Knowledge or experience in the use of Linux or UNIX (BSD) or Linux Support Certification

Posses a CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent industry standard certifications or education.

Posses a CompTIA N+ certification or equivalent industry standard certifications.

Posses a CompTIA Security+ or equivalent industry standard certifications.

Special Requirements

40 hour work week Monday-Friday; Some evenings and weekends;
