Safety Management Group, a nationwide leader in the safety consulting, training and staffing industry, is seeking a qualified construction safety specialist for a project in Providence, RI. This safety specialist will be providing assistance to a large CM for a major industrial project at a US Coast Guard Station.

Typical duties a Safety Advisor will perform during this project include daily site safety observations including documentation of findings, facilitation of corrective measures when warranted, attendance at progress meetings, site safety meetings, and assistance with permitting requirements as needed.

The Safety Advisor selected for this position will need to pass a security background check and substance abuse test in order gain access to the project site. Eyeglass wearers will need to have prescription safety glasses. This safety professional will also need to supply their own protective footwear (steel toed shoes).

To be considered for this project, Candidates must possess a thorough knowledge of construction safety and meet the requirements of a level 3 SSHO as listed below. In addition to experience, degrees in safety or related fields and certifications including CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST are preferred.

This client requires that candidates have completed the Army Corp of Engineers Contstruction Quality Management in addition to the following SSHO requiements.

SSHO Level 3 Requirements:
  • An Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) and/or Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST).

  • A minimum of 5 years safety work of a progressive nature.

  • 30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent within the last 5 years.

  • EM385 1-1 40 hour training

  • An average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past 5 years with training for competent person status for at least the following [4] areas of competency:

[Excavation]; [Scaffolding]; [Fall protection]; [Hazardous energy]; [Confined space]; [Health hazard recognition, evaluation and control of chemical, physical and biological agents]; [Personal protective equipment and clothing to include selection,use and maintenance].
