Teach a variety of safety management courses and plan and supervise internship experiences in a new BS program in safety management within the Department of Health Sciences. Serve as academic advisor for students and coordinate the implementation of a program that will be initiated in fall 2012. The successful candidate is expected to teach effectively and advise a diverse student population; undertake a regular research program or other discipline–related scholarly activities involving students as appropriate; make professional and university service contributions; and establish productive relationships with safety management and other organizations within the expanding Marcellus natural gas development and production industry in the region. Excellence in teaching, continuing scholarly growth, and service to the university are required for tenure and promotion.

Minimum requirements: Master’s or doctoral degree in safety science, management, occupational health and safety, or closely related field from a regionally accredited (or foreign equivalent) university. An exceptional ABD candidate will be considered but must complete the doctorate within 18 months of hire to continue in position. Additional qualifications: Safety management workforce experience; excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to teach and evaluate students. Ability to implement changing technologies that support teaching and learning and periodically teach online as needed by program demand. Demonstration, through past accomplishments and behaviors, of the ability to support Mansfield University’s principles and values of Character, Scholarship, Culture, and Service ( as well as the University’s strong student-centered vision and mission. Preferred: Experience teaching safety management or science in a university setting; experience and evidence of the ability to teach effectively; and a demonstrated interest in related research. Other conditions of employment include verification of all earned degrees through the receipt of original transcripts and an acceptable background check.

Essential Functions:
Teaching and advising, continued scholarly growth, and service to the department, university, and community. Effective communication and use of electronic instructional technology. Work cooperatively with staff, faculty and administration. Use software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and the university’s learning management and student information systems. May be required to lift, stand, walk, reach with arms, etc.

Job Status:

Tenure-track position beginning as soon as possible, dependent on System Board of Governors approval of final program proposal. Assistant Professor rank based on qualifications. Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience. Excellent faculty benefits:
