Teach a variety of safety management courses and plan and supervise internship experiences in a new BS program in safety management within the Department of Health Sciences. The successful candidate is expected to teach effectively and advise a diverse student population; undertake a regular research program or other discipline–related scholarly activities involving students as appropriate; make professional and university service contributions; and establish productive relationships with safety management and other organizations within the expanding Marcellus natural gas development and production industry in the region. Course offerings are contingent upon sufficient enrollment.
Minimum requirements: A master’s degree in safety science, safety management, or closely related field from a regionally accredited (or foreign equivalent) university; and completion of a successful interview which may include a teaching demonstration. Additional requirements: Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); and the ability to teach, evaluate and advise students. Demonstrate the elements of the Mansfield Creed (Character, Scholarship, Culture, Service) and be effective in supporting the university’s vision and mission. Preferred: A completed Ph.D. or ABD in safety science, safety management, or closely related field; and prior teaching experience at the university level and online teaching experience. Other conditions of employment are verification of all earned degrees through the receipt of original transcripts and an acceptable background check report.
Teaching and advising, continued scholarly growth, and service to the department, university, and community. Effective communication and use of electronic teaching technology. Work cooperatively with staff, faculty and administration. Ability to use software application programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and effective use of phone, keyboard and other office equipment. May be required to lift, stand, walk, reach with arms, etc. Travel may be required.
Temporary, part and full-time positions as needed for the 2012/13 academic year, Instructor rank. Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience.
