Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Department of Oceanography, located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications.
DUTIES: Performs the fabrication, deployment and recovery of oceanographic instruments. Performs post-processing, analysis and synthesis of oceanographic data. Assists the Principal Investigator with the development of coastal models, obtaining permits for coastal sites and writing scientific manuscripts.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental, Marine, Engineering or related science. EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of experience in fabricating, deploying, and maintaining oceanographic instrumentation. Experience with Microsoft Office programs, MatLab, and proprietary software. Experience with written, oral, and visual reports. Experience with maintaining daily operations in a laboratory and office. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Proficient knowledge of scientific data streams. Proficient knowledge of coastal physical oceanography. Strong knowledge of the usage of various oceanographic instruments, including pressure sensors, acoustic Doppler current profilers, and temperature sensors. Proficient computer and written and verbal communication skills. Ability to perform fabrication/maintenance of equipment and instruments. Ability to use power tools and electronics safely. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift and carry twenty-five (25) pounds or more. Must have strong swimming skills.
SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with RCUH policies and procedures.
