The primary responsibility of the Scientific Advisor – Characterization is to lead the day to day activities in the Characterization group. The position is responsible for all phases of the projects handled by the work team and should utilize appropriate tools to ensure progress against project milestones. Excellent technical skills in all areas, communication and interpersonal skills are required in dealing with internal and external customers. Timely and proactive interaction with colleagues in all departments is required throughout the phases of a project to ensure a successful completion.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
Develops and executes departmental initiatives, plans and budgets to meet the objectives of the VP of R&D and the Company.
Collaborate effectively cross functionally with other departments inclusive of Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance and Project Management.
Mechanism of Action
Participates in formulating and administering department policies and developing long-range goals and objectives.
Confers with VP of R&D and other key personnel to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives resulting from current status and conditions.
Identify, qualify, develop and foster good working relationships with external customers to further enhance the image of the company and significantly aid in the establishment of HP as “a leader in advancing wound care”.
Cross-fertilize ideas across divisions.
Serves as a true Applied Research Scientist, assisting first hand in the Laboratory.
Ensures effective and efficient standards of communication across functional departments within the Company by using appropriate blend of meetings, networking, E-communication and formal reports.
Sustains and further develops scientific and business skills at the regional, national and international levels of recognition via guest lectures, publications, presentations, and communications with national and international opinion leaders.
Prioritize and direct activities of the respective R&D services group. Organize, advise, and activate task forces to investigate, to research and to further develop new and existing systems to increase technical strength and competency. Provide guidance for and expert advice to subordinates, where applicable.
Submit annual budget proposals for personnel and equipment. Assist in planning and/or securing adequate facilities for departmental operations.
Assist in the identification and interaction with industry Key Opinion Leaders (KOL)
Assist in the development of five year strategic planning for department.
Identify departmental needs as company vision and company itself evolves.
Doctoral degree (Ph. D.) or equivalent in chemistry, biochemistry or a related field and 6 to 10 years of applicable experience in the pharmaceutical industry is required; or a Masters degree in cellular and/or molecular biology plus a minimum of 12 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry is required.
Experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry and will have held a number of positions with increasing levels of responsibility throughout their career
Technically capable in the areas of pre-clinical biologic development, with good project management and business development skills.
A proven track record in bringing BLA, NDA and 510K products to market is a plus.
Experience in the research & development of such products and their subsequent manufacture within a GMP environment.
Strong scientific accuracy adapted to the Industry
Experience in the development of intellectual property portfolios and experience in filing and defending patent applications is also required.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This position involves interaction with staff at all levels and in all departments.
Must be a team player with a proven track record of interdepartmental conflict resolution and communication.
Ability to write articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on technical subjects or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or customers.
Ability sell advanced development Solutions and new platform technologies to prospective customers.
Must have a track record of achievement in the pharmaceutical industry and must have excelled at bringing about change and innovation.
