The R&D Scientist II – Molecular applies technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques to the performance of laboratory experimentation in the development of new molecular diagnostic products.
This position will contribute to solutions for a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity and contribute to the completion of milestones associated with new product development and specific projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, execute, and analyze experiments with a limited level of supervision
Analyze and interpret results to characterize assay performance and/or troubleshoot problems.
Execute new product development and product support activities according to existing protocols or development or adaptation of new protocols as required.
Maintain and grow technical skills and expert knowledge through scientific literature, state-of- the-art technologies, theories and principles within scientific discipline.
Communicate technical information to others either orally or in writing through application notes, technical papers, posters, and internal and external presentations.
Draft documentation associated with manufacture and test protocols, and standard operating procedures.
Train associates on newly developed assays or products as needed.
Provide technical support to other departments and customers as needed
Education and Experience
Requires a minimum of a BS or BA in a Life Science discipline with at least 2 years relevant industry experience in molecular biology.
Knowledge and Skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated success working in a multifunctional team environment to achieve desired goals, are required.
Proficiency in a broad range of techniques in molecular biology including nucleic acid isolation, hybridization-based detection, and real-time PCR.
Experience with aseptic/sterile technique for handling nucleic acids and bacterial cell cultures is required
Must have organization, planning, and goal setting skills and demonstrated capability to work with limited supervision.
Familiarity with spreadsheets, database programs, or other statistical analysis software tools is a plus.
Experience in processing of infectious biological samples for the recovery of nucleic acids, together with a strong background in microbiology, virology and /or clinical laboratory science is advantageous.
Knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practices and product development are a plus.
