Non-Exempt; full-time work through the Summer; 40 hours per week; anticipated schedule is Monday – Friday; 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; plus some Saturday/Sunday morning hours; a pproximately April – September 2013; early season & late season hours may be less than 40 per week; no benefits.

Wage: $8.00 per hour - age 16 years; up to 4 positions can be filled at this level
Wage: $8.25 per hour - minimum age 17 years; new workers
Wage: $8.50 per hour - minimum age 17 years; returning workers with satisfactory prior performance in this positition

This position will perform routine manual work consisting of a wide variety of parks maintenance and custodial tasks for the Division of Parks and Recreation. Supervision is received from a Park Maintenance Foreman and/or Grounds Maintenance Leader.

  • Mowing grass
  • Litter pick-up and trash removal
  • Park shelter clean-up
  • Planting
  • General grounds maintenance
  • Weeding
  • Raking
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Possession of a valid automobile operator's license (for age 17 years and older) with the ability to obtain and maintain a Frederick County Employee Driving Permit
  • Ability to operate and care for assigned tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner
  • Effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including the ability to accurately complete inventory forms and other paperwork
  • Physical requirements include the ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time; use various types of hand tools and grounds maintenance equipment (string trimmer, edger, shovel/pick/mattock, tractor/hand lawn mower, etc.); climb ladders and work from high places; lift and/or move plantings and various pieces of equipment; and work outside in all weather conditions
  • Age 17 years and older for vehicle operation duties
  • Previous grounds maintenance work experience
Additional Information/Examination Process:
  • Available for other varied days and hours as assigned, including weekends and holidays
  • Persons under 18 years of age must obtain a work permit before being placed in this job classification
