Salary: $10.00 per hour

Work in this class involves seasonal work in parks, aquatics, facility operations, special events, or day camps. Individuals in this class receive direction from a Children's Program Specialist, Seniors Program Specialist, Program Coordinator, Foreman, Recreation Manager, or Horticulture Coordinator. Evening and weekend work required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Office Assistant : Provides clerical support to the Parks Office. Assists with various projects such as preparing Personnel Action Request forms, or purchasing. Answers incoming phone calls and addresses questions regarding Department functions; forwards caller to appropriate contact or takes messages. Assists with miscellaneous office projects as needed. Provides customer service.

Grounds Worker : Includes all aspects of grounds maintenance, including mowing, edging, weed eating, raking, weeding plant beds, pruning shrubs, planting, watering, and fertilization. Workers in athletics may prepare clay infields and line ballfields. Workers in nature parks may maintain trails, clear brush, and assist with fence line clearing and boardwalk repairs. Performs related work as required.

Aquatics Worker : Supervise pool area, rescue swimmers in difficulty, apply emergency lifesaving and first aid techniques. Patrols pool area and may teach swimming lessons. Assists with testing, maintenance, cleaning pool, filtration equipment, and routine facility repairs. Keeps the pool deck clean, assists with cleaning of locker rooms. Performs related cashier and clerical duties as assigned. May assist with special events to include set-ups, clean-up, and crowd control. Performs related work as required.

Day Camp Worker : Plans and executes leisure activities such as sports, arts and crafts, drama, and special events. May supervise or instruct a group of children planning activities and administering discipline. Maintains participant safety, administers first aid and completes reports. May assist in seasonal before and after school childcare programs. Performs related work as required.

Facility Worker/Special Events : Opens, closes, secures a facility and ensures all rules and regulations of the facility are enforced. Assists contractual instructors, rental groups, and vendors in setting up and maintaining required equipment. May be directed to complete daily safety inspections of facility and parkland to ensure safety and aesthetic standards are met. Collects money from program registrations and memberships, and is responsible for data entry and computer reports. Assists with maintenance of equipment and facility as directed. Administers first aid and ensures participant safety. May assist with facility and park special events or rentals. Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Training and Experience :
Office Assistant : High School Diploma or GED and two years of office clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Grounds Worker : Experience in grounds maintenance work preferred.

Aquatics Worker : Minimum age 16 with current lifeguarding, adult/infant/child CPR and first aid certifications.

Facility Worker/Special Events Worker, Day Camp Worker : High school diploma or GED, and one year experience in leisure services or related field. Certification in CPR and First aid required.

Positions may require a valid Florida Drivers License, depending upon assignment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Office Assistant : Knowledge of Scheduling, customer service, and administrative responsibilities. Skilled in typing, documentation, meeting planning, verbal and written communication. Ability to pay attention to detail.

Grounds Worker : Knowledge of tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of laboring work. Physical strength and ability to perform heavy manual labor.

Aquatics Worker : Knowledge of modern lifesaving techniques. Skills in supervision of swimmers and swim instruction if certified as Water Safety Instructor. Ability to maintain effective communication with the public. Ability to assist with underwater pool cleaning if scuba certified. Ability to attentively focus on task for long periods of time, and must have good depth perception.

Day Camp Worker : Knowledge of variety of recreation activities. Must have leadership abilities with children. Skill in activity or program for which hired. Ability to pass background screening as required by law.

Facility Worker/Special Event : Knowledge of facility, program, and special event operations. Ability to give and receive oral communication. Ability to deal with people tactfully. Ability to do light to heavy manual work.

JOB PROFILE :
Work Environment : 10% inside a climate controlled building. 90% outside which may include driving.

Physical Requirements : The essential functions of the job require: sitting approximately one (1) hour per day, standing approximately five (5) hours per day, and walking approximately two (2) hours per day. The work requires frequent: bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 15 pounds, occasional lifting/carrying of objects weighing 15 to 44 pounds, and team lifting/carrying of objects weighing 45 pounds and over.

Sensory Requirements : Hearing: Enough to understand what others are saying in normal conversation in person and on the telephone, and ability to detect specific noises and the proper equipment operation. Speaking: Enough to communicate orally with others in person and on the telephone, and to be able to acknowledge instructions. Seeing: Enough to operate a vehicle and equipment.

Driving Requirements : The work requires some driving of trucks and a van. Possession of a valid Florida Class "E" Driver License required.

Other Machines : The work requires the ability to operate the following machines: small utility vehicles, copiers, printers and computers. Workers may occasionally use a laminating machine, printers and helium tank.
