Become a member of our growing Catastrophe Risk Engineering consulting practice while contributing to research and model development. Work closely with the engineering analysis team in San Francisco and the research and modeling teams in Boston and other locations globally.
Responsibilities
Collect and analyze regional earthquake catalog data, faults slip rates and paleoseismic data, and geologic and geotechnical information for site response analysis
Participate in the development of regional seismicity models by processing and integrating various earthquake related information such as historic/instrumental earthquake catalogs, faults slip rates, and geodetic data
Develop computer codes to solve geophysical and earthquake hazard related problems
Contribute to model development activities
Conduct site-specific probabilistic hazard analysis for risk assessment consulting projects
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Solid comprehension in a majority of the following
Experience in regional seismicity studies
Experience in subduction related earthquake hazard studies
Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis
Characterization of shallow site condition and site response analysis
Experience in working with event-based stochastic earthquake catalogs
Ability to work with geodetic data to supplement historical information for model development
Knowledge of probabilistic analysis techniques
Proficiency in scientific programming languages, including Fortran and/or C++
Ability to read and interpret surface geology maps a plus
Risk modeling experience a plus
GIS knowledge a plus
Qualifications
Ability and willingness to develop regional seismic hazard models by collecting and processing earthquake related data, running/writing seismicity related computer codes, and documenting and presenting the results
Scientific communication and presentation skills
2+ years of practical experience a plus
M.S. or Ph.D. in seismology or related field
